Acts 9:17
“Ananias departed, and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.””
What does Acts 9:17 mean?
Ananias has just been sent by God to find Saul (who will become Paul), a man who had been persecuting Christians. Despite his fear, Ananias obeys and goes to pray for Saul, calling him "Brother" right away, which shows extraordinary grace toward someone who had been his enemy. By laying hands on him and invoking the Lord's name, Ananias becomes the instrument through which Saul's physical blindness is healed and he receives the Holy Spirit, marking the beginning of his radical transformation into an apostle. This moment shows us that God often works through ordinary people doing difficult things. Ananias didn't have to go, but his willingness to show compassion and obedience opened the door for one of history's most dramatic conversions. It's a beautiful reminder that healing and new life sometimes come through people who choose to act in faith, even when everything in their circumstances tells them it's unsafe or unwise to do so.
