What does Acts 5:24 mean?

The apostles had just been arrested and imprisoned, but an angel freed them, and they went right back to teaching in the temple. When the religious authorities heard reports of this impossible escape and the apostles' bold continued preaching, they were utterly confused and alarmed. They couldn't figure out how the prisoners had gotten out, and they had no idea what would happen next. Their authority seemed to be slipping away, and they were losing control of the situation. This moment captures the fear that often grips those in power when something challenges their control. The authorities could imprison the apostles, but they couldn't imprison their faith or stop their message, and that powerlessness shook them deeply.
