“When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done.”
What does Acts 4:21 mean?
The apostles Peter and John had just been arrested for healing a beggar in Jesus's name, and the religious authorities wanted to silence them. After interrogating them, the leaders realized they had no legal grounds to punish the disciples without causing an uproar among the crowds who saw the healing as a genuine miracle. So they released them with warnings instead. What's striking here is that the authorities couldn't stop what God was doing, even with their power and position. The people's faith in what they'd witnessed became a protective barrier around the apostles. This reminds us that when God moves in people's lives, no amount of opposition or intimidation can ultimately undo it. Sometimes the most powerful force isn't authority or force, but the simple fact that others have seen God at work and can't help but glorify him for it.
