Acts 3:13
“The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.”
What does Acts 3:13 mean?
Peter is speaking to a crowd in Jerusalem just after healing a beggar, and he's reminding them of their spiritual heritage while also calling out what they did. He's saying that the same God their ancestors trusted has now shown Jesus to be God's chosen one, even though those listening (or their leaders) had rejected him and asked Pilate to execute him instead. The weight of this statement comes from Peter naming God the way the most faithful Jews would, invoking Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, then pivoting to say this same God validated Jesus by raising him up. It's both a plea to remember their faith tradition and a direct challenge: you know the God of your fathers, so how could you turn away from the one he has honored? For anyone who feels they've made terrible choices or walked away from what matters, this verse also hints at something deeper: God doesn't abandon his people even when they betray what he loves most.
