Acts 3:12
“When Peter saw it, he responded to the people, “You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this man? Why do you fasten your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk?”
What does Acts 3:12 mean?
Peter had just healed a beggar who'd been unable to walk his whole life, and the crowds were stunned, staring at Peter and John as if they'd performed some kind of miracle through their own strength or special spiritual status. Peter immediately redirects their attention, essentially saying, "Don't look at us—we're not the source of this." He's making room for something bigger: the recognition that God is the one at work here, not human ability or personal merit. There's something beautiful in Peter's response. Rather than bask in the crowd's amazement or let people think he and John were specially powerful, he humbles himself and points beyond himself. If you're going through a season where someone else's faith or actions have encouraged you, Peter's example is a good reminder that the real power and transformation always comes from God, not from the person you're looking at.
