Acts 27:6
“There the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy, and he put us on board.”
What does Acts 27:6 mean?
Paul and his fellow prisoners are being transported to Rome for trial, and their ship has been damaged in a storm. When they reach port in a town called Fair Havens, a Roman officer (the centurion) needs to find another vessel to continue the journey. An Alexandrian merchant ship heading to Italy appears, and the centurion simply commandeers it for his purposes, putting Paul and the other prisoners on board. This moment shows both the practical realities of Roman power and the way God works through ordinary circumstances. The centurion has no idea he's helping fulfill God's plan to get Paul to Rome, where Paul will eventually share the Gospel with people at the heart of the empire. Sometimes the most significant steps in our lives happen through what seems like routine decision-making by other people, yet nothing catches God by surprise.
