What does Acts 22:17 mean?

Paul is describing a pivotal moment when he encountered God so powerfully that his ordinary consciousness fell away. He's back in Jerusalem after his dramatic conversion, praying in the temple (the very center of Jewish life), when he suddenly enters a deep spiritual experience—a trance state where God communicates with him directly. This moment becomes the turning point that reshapes Paul's entire ministry. While in this state, God gives him a vision telling him to leave Jerusalem and go to the Gentiles, which was radical and risky given the tension between Jewish and non-Jewish believers. It's a reminder that sometimes God interrupts our plans in unexpected ways, and those interruptions, however disorienting they feel in the moment, carry profound purpose for our lives.
