Acts 20:35
“In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring you ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ””
What does Acts 20:35 mean?
Paul is reminding the Ephesian elders that he lived out what he taught, working with his own hands to support himself rather than demanding support from the church. He's saying that this example matters: when we work hard and use what we have to care for people who are struggling, we're actually living out Jesus's own teaching. The phrase "more blessed to give than to receive" doesn't mean receiving is wrong, but that generosity creates a kind of joy and freedom that self-protection never does. It's an invitation to experience the deeper satisfaction that comes from thinking of others' needs alongside our own.
