What does Acts 2:16 mean?
Peter is quoting the prophet Joel to explain what's happening right before the disciples' eyes, on the day of Pentecost. The apostles have just been filled with the Holy Spirit in a dramatic, visible way, and people are confused and amazed. Rather than leaving them guessing, Peter points to an ancient prophecy and says, "This is it, this is what Joel predicted." He's showing that what seems shocking and unexpected to his listeners was actually promised long ago in Scripture. It's a powerful reminder that God's plan has been unfolding across centuries, and sometimes the breakthrough moments we experience are the fulfillment of hopes that others held before us.
