“‘For in him we live, and move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’”
What does Acts 17:28 mean?
Paul is speaking to Greek philosophers in Athens, reminding them that God isn't distant or unknowable, but the very source of our existence. Every breath we take, every step we make, every moment we continue to exist happens within God's presence and care, not outside of it. He's quoting their own poets here (words they would have recognized) to show that even their own wisdom pointed toward this truth, and that this God who sustains all life is also intimately connected to us as a loving creator is connected to children.
