What does Acts 1:6 mean?
The disciples had just witnessed Jesus rise from the dead and spend forty days teaching them. Even after everything, they still asked if this was finally the moment when God would restore Israel's political power and independence from Rome. Their question shows how deeply they—like many Jews of their time—longed for God to fix their broken world and free their nation from occupation. Jesus doesn't scold them for asking, but his answer (in the verses right after) gently redirects their focus: God's kingdom works differently than they imagined, and their job isn't to predict God's timeline but to go out and tell the world about Jesus. It's a tender reminder that even people walking closest to Jesus can misunderstand what God is really doing, and that's okay. Many of us can relate to hoping God will fix things in a particular way, only to discover he had something deeper in mind.
