What does Acts 1:12 mean?

After Jesus ascended into heaven, his followers walked back to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which was just close enough to reach on foot without breaking the Jewish law against traveling far on the Sabbath. This small detail shows us a concrete moment: these disciples were real people in a real place, grieving and confused, yet still faithful enough to gather together in the city Jesus had told them to wait in. The mention of the Sabbath journey distance also reminds us that the early believers remained deeply rooted in their Jewish faith and practices, even as something entirely new was beginning.
