What does 2 Timothy 1:7 mean?
When Paul wrote to his young ministry partner Timothy, he was reminding him that anxiety and timidity don't come from God, but from somewhere else entirely. Instead, God gives us a spirit marked by three things: power (the strength to do what we're called to do), love (which casts out fear), and self-control (the ability to think clearly rather than being overwhelmed by panic). This is meant as reassurance when you're facing something that makes you want to back away. Whatever you're walking through, this verse says your trembling isn't coming from God's side. It's an invitation to notice the actual resources already available to you: courage, genuine affection for others, and a clear mind. Those are the real gifts.
