What does 2 Thessalonians 2:3 mean?
Paul is writing to reassure Christians who were anxious and confused about when Jesus would return. Some people were claiming the end times had already started, and Paul wants to calm that panic by saying: not yet. Before Christ returns, there will be a clear falling away from faith and a figure called "the man of sin" will be revealed, so obvious and unmistakable that you won't miss it. He's essentially telling them, "Don't let anyone trick you into thinking the end is here now, because certain dramatic things have to happen first that you'll absolutely recognize." For people in difficult seasons or uncertain times, there's comfort in knowing that God's plans unfold in a particular order, not randomly or secretly, and that we don't need to live in constant fear of being caught off guard.
