What does 2 Samuel 22:1 mean?

David had spent years running for his life, hunted by King Saul, sleeping in caves and hiding in deserts. This song comes after all that danger finally ended, when he could breathe freely again. He's responding to his deliverance the only way that makes sense to him: by pouring out his gratitude to God in words and music. What's beautiful here is that David doesn't wait for a perfect moment or a formal ceremony to worship. He speaks his praise while the reality of survival is still fresh, while his heart is still full of amazement at being alive and safe. His song becomes a record of God's faithfulness during the darkest chapter of his life, a testimony he can return to whenever he needs to remember that he was once rescued.
