What does 2 Peter 2:6 mean?
God's judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah wasn't hidden or private, it was intentionally left visible as a stark warning about the consequences of rejecting his ways. Peter is saying that their complete destruction served a purpose beyond those cities themselves, it became a lesson for all generations to see what happens when people persistently turn away from God's design for living. The imagery of cities reduced to ashes emphasizes how total and irreversible that judgment was, meant to grab our attention. This doesn't mean God enjoys destruction, but rather that he takes seriously our choices and wants us to understand that ignoring his guidance leads to real consequences, both individually and collectively.
