2 Peter 1:6
“and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control perseverance; and in perseverance godliness;”
What does 2 Peter 1:6 mean?
Peter is describing a chain reaction of spiritual growth that builds on itself. Once you have genuine knowledge of God and Jesus, that deepens into self-control, the ability to manage your impulses and reactions. Then self-control naturally leads to perseverance, the strength to keep going even when things get hard. And all of that together creates godliness, a life that increasingly reflects God's character. Think of it like building muscle: you can't skip steps. You need the foundation of knowing who God actually is before self-discipline makes sense. You need practice with self-control before you can stick with something through a long season of difficulty. When you've walked through that process, people see something different in you—a steadiness and holiness that comes from the inside out.
