2 John 1:9

Whoever transgresses and doesn’t remain in the teaching of Christ, doesn’t have God. He who remains in the teaching, the same has both the Father and the Son.

What does 2 John 1:9 mean?

This verse talks about what it means to genuinely stay connected to God through Jesus. To "remain in the teaching of Christ" means to hold onto the core truths about who Jesus is and what he taught, not just intellectually but in how you actually live. When someone drifts away from these teachings, John says they lose their connection to God itself, which is a serious warning about how foundational these truths are to faith. The encouraging flip side is just as important: if you do stay grounded in Christ's teaching, you have both God the Father and Jesus the Son. This isn't about being perfect or following every rule flawlessly, but about keeping your heart oriented toward Jesus and what he actually taught about love, grace, and redemption. Even when faith feels shaky or you're working through doubts, simply choosing to stay close to his core message keeps you connected to the heart of God.
