What does 1 Timothy 4:2 mean?
Paul is describing people whose moral sense has been so hardened by repeated dishonesty that they can no longer feel guilt or shame about their deception. When someone repeatedly ignores their conscience, it becomes increasingly calloused, like scarred skin that's lost its sensitivity to pain. He's warning Timothy that some false teachers will seem confident and persuasive precisely because they've silenced their own inner voice warning them they're wrong. It's a sobering picture of how we can damage ourselves spiritually when we consistently choose deception over truth, eventually losing the very warning system God built into us.
