What does 1 Timothy 3:6 mean?
When someone first comes to faith, spiritual excitement is natural and beautiful, but putting them into leadership roles too quickly can backfire. A new believer hasn't yet learned how pride and power can distort the heart, and the responsibility of leading others can feed an inflated sense of their own importance. The warning isn't that they'll commit the same specific sins as the devil, but that they risk the same downfall: becoming so convinced of their own greatness that they stumble badly and disappoint both themselves and those who trusted them. This matters because faith communities depend on leaders who have developed humility through experience, setbacks, and time to grow spiritually mature. Patience in developing new believers before giving them authority actually protects both them and everyone else.
