What does 1 Thessalonians 5:12 mean?
Paul is asking the church to recognize and respect the people who work hard for them—the leaders, teachers, and others who guide the community in faith. He's not asking for blind obedience, but rather for thoughtful acknowledgment that some people dedicate themselves to serving and caring for others spiritually. When we "know" these people, we see their genuine effort, understand what they're trying to do, and appreciate the weight of their responsibility. This matters especially when those leaders need to offer correction or difficult guidance, because a community that knows and trusts them is more likely to receive their words with an open heart.
