1 Thessalonians 5:10
βwho died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.β
What does 1 Thessalonians 5:10 mean?
Paul is reminding the Thessalonians that Christ's death covers us completely, no matter what state we're in when he returns. "Wake or sleep" refers to whether believers are alive or have already died when Jesus comes back, and the point is that both groups will be united with him and each other. This was written to comfort people who were anxious about loved ones who had passed away, worried those believers might somehow miss out on Christ's return. Instead, Paul assures them that death doesn't separate us from Jesus or from one another in God's kingdom.
