What does 1 Samuel 3:7 mean?

At this point in Samuel's life, he was still a young boy serving in the temple, and he hadn't yet experienced God directly or understood what God's voice sounded like. This verse sets up the beautiful moment that follows, when God calls to Samuel in the night and Samuel gradually learns to recognize and respond to God's voice. It's a reminder that knowing God isn't something we're born with, but something we develop and deepen over time through real encounters and experiences. Many of us can relate to feeling uncertain about God's presence or direction at different seasons of our lives, so Samuel's starting point of genuine unknowing might feel surprisingly familiar and honest.
