What does 1 Samuel 24:2 mean?
Saul has just learned that David is hiding in the wilderness, and his jealousy and fear push him to mount a major manhunt. Taking three thousand soldiers shows how seriously (and obsessively) he's treating this threat to his throne, even though David is really just trying to survive. The "rocks of the wild goats" describes the harsh, remote terrain where David has fled, a place difficult to navigate and easy to hide in.
