1 Samuel 23:2
“Therefore David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” Yahweh said to David, “Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah.””
What does 1 Samuel 23:2 mean?
David was hiding in the wilderness, running from King Saul, when he learned that Philistine raiders were attacking the town of Keilah. Instead of ignoring the crisis or assuming God wanted him to stay hidden for safety, he asked God directly what to do. God's answer was clear: go help these people, even though David was in a vulnerable position himself. This moment shows us something beautiful about how God sometimes calls us to step into difficulty for the sake of others. David could have reasoned that protecting his own life came first, but he brought his uncertainty to God and trusted the answer he received. It's a reminder that seeking God's guidance, especially when we're confused or afraid, opens us up to purposes bigger than our own survival.
