1 Samuel 15:7
βSaul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.β
What does 1 Samuel 15:7 mean?
King Saul had been ordered by the prophet Samuel to completely destroy the Amalekites as punishment for their ancient hostility toward Israel. This verse describes Saul following through on that command, launching a military campaign across the territory where the Amalekites lived, from one end of their land to the other. The geographical markers (Havilah to Shur, near Egypt's border) show this wasn't a small skirmish but a thorough military operation across their entire region. What matters most for the larger story is that Saul appears to be obeying, though we soon learn he actually compromised by keeping the best livestock and their king alive, which becomes a turning point where his disobedience costs him God's favor.
