What does 1 Samuel 13:9 mean?
Saul is acting as a king in a moment of fear and impatience. He's supposed to wait for the prophet Samuel to arrive and perform a sacred offering, but his army is scattered and enemies are closing in. Instead of waiting, Saul takes the priestly duty upon himself and offers the sacrifice. This moment captures a deeper problem than just one impulsive act: Saul is crossing a line between his role as king and the priestly responsibilities that aren't his to claim. When we're anxious or feel pressured by circumstances, we sometimes overstep our boundaries and take on responsibilities God hasn't given us, thinking we know better than His instructions.
