What does 1 Kings 19:1 mean?
Elijah has just won an enormous spiritual victory on Mount Carmel, calling down fire from heaven and exposing the false prophets of Baal. But when King Ahab reports this to his wife Jezebel, he frames it only as violence and loss, conveniently omitting the miracle that proved God's power. Jezebel, furious at the death of her prophets, immediately threatens Elijah's life, setting up a moment where the prophet who just showed such boldness will suddenly flee in fear. This moment captures something painfully human: how quickly our victories can feel hollow when we're surrounded by hostility, and how easily others can distort what God has done into something that looks merely destructive rather than redemptive.
