What does 1 Kings 18:8 mean?
Obadiah, a servant in King Ahab's household, has just encountered the prophet Elijah in the wilderness. After years of hiding, Elijah is finally ready to show himself and confront the king about the drought and spiritual corruption plaguing Israel. When Obadiah asks if it's really him, Elijah confirms his identity and instructs Obadiah to deliver the message that will set an enormous, public confrontation in motion. What's striking here is the simplicity and directness of Elijah's words. He doesn't hesitate or hedge. He's been in hiding, but he's not afraid anymore. Sometimes stepping back into visibility, accountability, or difficult conversations requires us to be equally clear about who we are and what we're doing. There's a quiet courage in saying "It is I" and moving forward with what needs to happen, even when we know it will be hard.
