1 Kings 18:10

As Yahweh your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. When they said, ‘He is not here,’ he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they didn’t find you.

What does 1 Kings 18:10 mean?

Obadiah, a servant in King Ahab's household, is telling the prophet Elijah how desperately the king has searched for him across the entire region. Ahab had been hunting Elijah during a terrible drought and was so determined that he made neighboring kingdoms swear oaths that they would report Elijah's whereabouts if they found him. This reveals just how much Elijah's message threatened Ahab's power and his worship of false gods. The passage shows us that when we stand for what God calls us to do, it can provoke real opposition, but it also demonstrates God's protection in keeping Elijah hidden through all that searching.
