What does 1 Kings 11:5 mean?
Solomon, the wisest king Israel had known, gradually turned his heart toward the gods of the nations around him—specifically the deities his foreign wives brought with them into his household. Ashtoreth and Milcom were real gods that real people worshipped, and by following after them, Solomon wasn't just entertaining harmless cultural customs. He was actively turning away from the God of Israel.
