What does 1 John 5:15 mean?
When we're confident that God hears us, we can trust that what we've prayed for is already on its way to us, even before we see it happen. John is describing a kind of spiritual certainty: if God is listening (and the deeper point of 1 John is that he absolutely is), then our requests aren't floating out into empty space. They matter to him. This doesn't mean every single thing we ask for will happen exactly as we imagine. Rather, it points to something deeper about having faith in God's attention and care. When you pray from a place of knowing you're truly heard, you can let go of the anxious feeling that you have to convince God or keep reminding him. That release from anxiety itself changes how we experience our prayers, whether the answer comes quickly, slowly, or in a completely different form than expected.
