What does 1 John 4:9 mean?
God showed us what love really looks like by sending Jesus into the world, not because we deserved it or earned it, but so we could have life through him. This isn't abstract theology, but something tangible: God stepping into human history in the most vulnerable way possible, as a baby born to ordinary people. The point isn't that we first loved God or cleaned ourselves up, but that God made the first move, taking the initiative to reach us when we were far away. That kind of love, which gives everything without waiting for a return, is what transforms us and makes genuine life possible.
