1 John 4:12

What does 1 John 4:12 mean?

There's something beautifully honest here. John acknowledges that God is invisible, beyond our direct sight, yet he immediately pivots to something we can absolutely experience: loving each other. When we choose to love those around us, we're not creating God's presence from nothing, but rather allowing God's love to become complete and real in our lives. Think of it like this: God's love is always there, but it comes alive in the world when we live it out toward one another. It's the difference between knowing intellectually that love exists and actually feeling it when someone shows up for you. Our ordinary acts of kindness and care aren't separate from encountering God, they're where His presence becomes tangible and whole.
