1 John 3:18

My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.

What does 1 John 3:18 mean?

John is writing to people he cares deeply about, calling them "little children" with genuine affection. He's pushing back against a hollow kind of faith where people say all the right things but never actually show up for one another. Love that only lives in words, he says, doesn't mean much, especially when someone is hungry, hurting, or lonely. Real love shows itself through concrete actions and genuine commitment, through the things we actually do and the sacrifices we make. When you love someone this way, you're proving that your words come from a real place in your heart.
