What does 1 John 3:14 mean?
Love for others is the sign that something real has shifted inside you, that you've moved from spiritual deadness into genuine life with God. John isn't saying you earn this transformation through love, but rather that love naturally flows out when you've truly encountered God's love yourself. It's like how warmth radiates from a fire, or how a healthy plant naturally produces fruit. The hardest part of this verse might be its second half. If you struggle to love certain people, or if you've felt distant from God, that doesn't mean you're condemned, but it's worth asking honestly whether you're letting God's love actually reach you and change you. Sometimes a lack of love reveals that we're holding onto hurt, pride, or fear instead of opening ourselves to be transformed.
