What does 1 Corinthians 9:4 mean?
Paul is reminding the Corinthians that he and other apostles have legitimate needs like food and shelter, and the church has responsibility to support those who minister to them. He's not being defensive about needing sustenance, but rather establishing that spiritual work deserves practical care. This matters because some in Corinth were apparently questioning whether the apostles deserved financial support, and Paul is gently pointing out that basic human needs aren't shameful or inappropriate to ask about. Later in this passage, he'll explain why he sometimes chose not to take support anyway, but first he wants to be clear: needing to eat is no weakness.
