What does 1 Corinthians 7:32 mean?

Paul is offering perspective on marriage and singleness by pointing out that unmarried people have fewer competing demands on their attention and energy. When you're single, you can focus your heart and mind on growing closer to God without the legitimate needs of a spouse pulling your focus in other directions. This isn't him saying marriage is wrong or that married people can't be devoted to God, but rather acknowledging the real difference in how our time and emotional energy get divided. He's trying to help people make peace with whatever season they're in, whether that's married life with its beautiful complications or single life with its particular freedom to pursue spiritual growth.
