1 Corinthians 3:13
“each man’s work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will test what sort of work each man’s work is.”
What does 1 Corinthians 3:13 mean?
Paul is writing to a church divided by pride and favoritism, and he's reminding them that what matters isn't human applause or status now, but what lasts. On judgment day, he says, God will test everyone's work like fire tests metal, burning away what's worthless and revealing what's genuine. Your service, your character, your faithfulness, your motives: all will be exposed and evaluated by God's perfect standard, not human opinion. The good news embedded here is that if you're building on a foundation of love and truth, you don't need to fear this test. It's meant to comfort believers who are doing the hard, unglamorous work that the community overlooks, and to soberly remind those who are building their reputation on hollow things.
