What does 1 Corinthians 15:55 mean?
Paul is celebrating the ultimate triumph over death through Jesus's resurrection. He's writing to people who fear death as humanity's final enemy, and he's essentially taunting death itself, asking where its power has gone. By raising Jesus from the dead, God has stripped away death's ability to separate us from him forever. The "sting" refers to death's painful bite, and the "victory" is its ability to claim permanent dominion over us. Paul's confidence here comes from his certainty that because Christ rose, everyone who belongs to him will also rise. Even though we still experience physical death in this life, it no longer has the last word or the final sting, because resurrection is real.
