What does 1 Corinthians 15:17 mean?
Paul is laying out what's at stake in the resurrection of Jesus. If Christ didn't actually rise from the dead, then his death didn't accomplish what Christians believe it did, and your faith in him becomes an empty thing. You'd still be separated from God, still carrying the weight of your own wrongdoing with no way across that divide. He's not trying to be harsh here, but rather to show why the resurrection matters so much. It's not just a nice theological idea or a symbol of hope. For Paul, it's the foundation that makes everything else real. Without it, Christianity crumbles. But because he believed Christ *was* raised, he believed forgiveness and restoration were actually possible.
