1 Corinthians 14:29
“Let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern.”
What does 1 Corinthians 14:29 mean?
In the early church, people believed God sometimes spoke directly through certain individuals called prophets. Paul is saying that when this happens publicly, it should happen in an orderly way, not all at once: just two or three people should speak up. The rest of the community then has a responsibility to carefully weigh what was said, testing it against what they know to be true about God and Scripture. This protects the church from being led astray by false messages while still remaining open to genuine spiritual insight. It's a beautiful balance between trusting God to speak and using the good judgment He gave us.
