1 Corinthians 14:1
βFollow after love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.β
What does 1 Corinthians 14:1 mean?
Paul is calling believers to make love their foundation, then to pursue the spiritual gifts that help the church grow. He's suggesting that while all gifts matter, prophecy (speaking God's truth in timely, relevant ways) holds special value because it directly builds up, encourages, and guides people toward God. The point isn't that other gifts don't matter, but that we should prioritize what most deeply serves others and strengthens faith. In other words: chase love first, seek the gifts that help others flourish, and recognize that sometimes the most powerful gift is simply speaking what God wants people to hear in that moment.
