What does 1 Corinthians 12:11 mean?
Paul is explaining that the different spiritual gifts in a church community, far from being random or earned, all flow from the Holy Spirit working according to his own wisdom and purpose. Just as a single wind can move different leaves in different ways, one Spirit distributes unique abilities to different people, and there's a design to who gets what. This means you don't need to feel inadequate about the gifts you lack, nor should you take credit for the ones you have, since the Spirit gives them out intentionally to build up the whole community rather than to boost individual status.
