1 Corinthians 12:10

What does 1 Corinthians 12:10 mean?
Paul is describing different spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit gives to different people in the church, and this verse focuses on the more dramatic ones: the ability to perform miracles, speak God's message through prophecy, distinguish between genuine and false spiritual influences, speak in unknown languages, and interpret what those languages mean. The point isn't that everyone gets all these gifts or that some gifts are more important than others, but rather that God distributes them as he sees fit so the whole community can function and grow together. If you're reading this and feeling like you don't have the "flashy" gifts, Paul's whole argument in this chapter is actually building toward showing that quieter gifts like encouragement, service, and mercy are equally valuable to the body of Christ. Whatever spiritual capacity you have, it's meant to serve others, not to build yourself up.
