Zephaniah 3:1
“Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, the oppressing city!”
What does Zephaniah 3:1 mean?
Jerusalem had become a place where justice had collapsed, where leaders exploited the vulnerable instead of protecting them, and where the people had turned away from God's way. Zephaniah's "woe" is both a lament and a warning, like a parent saying "look what you've done to yourselves." Even though the city was meant to be a light reflecting God's character, it had become defined by selfishness and cruelty. Yet this harsh word comes not from hatred but from a desire to shake people awake before it's too late, offering them one last chance to turn around.
