What does Zechariah 9:6 mean?
God is promising to humble the Philistines, ancient enemies of Israel, by allowing foreign people to settle in their cities and break their power. Ashdod was one of their major coastal strongholds, so naming it specifically shows how thoroughly their rule would collapse. The "pride" being cut off means their arrogance, their sense of invulnerability, and their ability to dominate others, not the people themselves.
