Zechariah 9:17
βFor how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! Grain will make the young men flourish, and new wine the virgins.β
What does Zechariah 9:17 mean?
The prophet Zechariah is celebrating God's generosity and attractiveness, inviting people to notice how deeply good and beautiful God truly is. He then paints a picture of blessing flowing outward: abundance will strengthen the young men, and fresh wine will bring joy to the young women, suggesting that when we recognize God's goodness, it naturally spills over into flourishing and celebration in our own lives and communities. It's an invitation to stop and marvel at how generous God is, and to trust that this generosity creates real transformation in ordinary people and ordinary moments. In hard times, this verse whispers that God's character itself is worth admiring, and that goodness is still at work even when we're struggling to see it.
