What does Zechariah 8:16 mean?

God is calling his people to build a community rooted in honesty and fairness. Speaking truth to one another, rather than deception or half-truths, creates the foundation for trust. When leaders and judges then carry out their decisions with both truthfulness and compassion, they're not choosing between justice and mercy, but weaving them together so communities can actually flourish. This comes after Zechariah describes God's vision for Jerusalem's restoration after exile, when the people desperately needed to rebuild not just physically but relationally. The challenge remains just as relevant today: authentic community requires us to show up honestly with each other and to make space for fairness that considers everyone's dignity, not just winning our case.
