What does Zechariah 4:3 mean?

In this vision, Zechariah is seeing a lampstand with two olive trees flanking it, one on each side. The olive trees represent the two anointed leaders of his time: Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the governor, who together were rebuilding Jerusalem after exile. Rather than relying on military power or human strength alone, God was showing that His work would be accomplished through these two leaders empowered by His Spirit, symbolized by the oil flowing from the trees to fuel the lamp. It's a comforting image: God provides what we need to keep shining His light, and He often works through people He has specially equipped and called.
